Elke ochtend duwen de bewoners – moslim, Kroaat of Serviër – de barricades opzij en gaat het leven door. Onder deze omstandigheden richt Zora, kunstenaar en docent, zich vooral op haar familie en haar leerlingen. Haar atelier in de oude stad is haar toevluchtsoord. Maar wanneer het geweld uiteindelijk echt de overhand neemt, ziet ze in dat ze haar man en haar bejaarde moeder in veiligheid moet brengen bij haar dochter die in Engeland woont. Ervan overtuigd dat het geweld niet langer dan een paar weken zal duren, blijft ze alleen achter. Terwijl alles wat haar dierbaar is verwoest wordt en de zwarte as boven de daken dwarrelt, zullen Zora en haar vrienden op elkaar moeten vertrouwen om te overleven. Ondertussen maken ze wanhopige plannen om de stad waar ze zo van houden toch te ontvluchten. Geïnspireerd door verhalen uit haar familie over de belegering van Sarajevo, slechts dertig jaar geleden, toont Priscilla Morris een adembenemend en angstaanjagend portret van oorlog en trauma, maar ook van veerkracht en hoop.
