De witte bloemen komen in mei/juni en worden dan opgevolgd door rode bessen. Deze zijn populair bij vogels De ovale bladeren die tegen elkaar staan in groepjes van circa 10 verkleuren in de herfst. Deze fraaie Sorbus Dodong boom is verkrijgbaar in meerstammig en hoogstam variant. Deze struik wordt veelal geplant binnen bosplantsoen stroken in combinatie met andere struiken zoals de Vlier 'Sambucus', Boerenjasmijn 'Philadelphus' en Gewone hazelaar 'Corylus'.
