Deze Amerikaanse judasboom Cercis canadensis 'Merlot' wordt zo'n 2 tot 4 meter groot. Het blad is glanzend en hartvormig. De bladeren verkleuren veel door het jaar heen van paarsbrons via paarsgroen naar donkergroen. De fraaie bloei (op kaal hout) is donkerroze tot paars van kleur. Deze zuilvormige boom heeft een smalle (ook wel beveerde) vorm. 

Standplaats

Deze Judasboom groeit goed in vruchtbare, goed doorlatende grond in de volle zon of gevlekte schaduw. De bloemen zijn roze van kleuren en bloeien op het kale hout, hierdoor vallen ze extra op. 

Cercis Merlot combineren met 

Combineer met onderbeplanting zoals Carex ice dance, Vinca major, Gele Zonnehoed 'Rudbeckia', Kattenkruid 'Nepeta', Geranium johnson en Lampenpoetsersgras 'Pennisetum hameln'. Zie foto een voorbeeld. Maak groepjes van vaste planten.
