Hij is niet gekomen voor Zichzelf, maar om de wil van Zijn Vader te doen. Niet af en toe, maar altijd. Hij noemt dat zelfs Zijn spijze, Zijn eten en drinken.

Ambt en werk zijn bij Christus nauw aan elkaar verbonden. Ze worden in de Schrift als in één adem genoemd: ‘De Geest des Heeren HEEREN is op Mij, omdat de Heere mij gezalfd heeft om – en dan volgt het doel van de zalving – een blijde boodschap te brengen aan de zachtmoedigen; Hij heeft Mij gezonden om te verbinden de gebrokenen van harte, om de gevangenen vrijheid uit te roepen, en de gebondenen opening der gevangenis; om uit te roepen het jaar van het welbehagen des HEEREN, en de dag der wraak onzes Gods; om alle treurigen te troosten...’ Deze tekst uit Jesaja 61 laat zien hoe Christus Zijn drievoudig ambt uitoefent in de gelovigen. De uitwerking daarvan blijkt uit de vruchten van hun leven.
