Filtri a densità neutra
I filtri a densità neutra hanno diversi utilizzi e offrono la possibilità di ottenere risultati altrimenti irraggiungibili. I filtri ND appaiono grigi e riducono la quantità di luce che raggiunge la pellicola. Non hanno alcun effetto sul bilanciamento del colore.

I filtri a densità neutra hanno quattro utilizzi principali:

  • Per consentire l'uso di tempi di posa lunghi, in particolare con pellicole ad alta velocità, per registrare il movimento di soggetti come cascate, nuvole o automobili
  • Per ridurre la profondità di campo consentendo l'uso di diaframmi più ampi, che aiuta a separare i soggetti dallo sfondo
  • Per ridurre l'ISO effettivo della pellicola ad alta velocità (oltre ISO 400) e consentirne l'uso all'aperto in situazioni luminose per consentire alle cineprese e alle videocamere (che hanno velocità di otturazione fisse) di filmare soggetti come neve, sabbia o altre scene luminose che potrebbero causare sovraesposizione
