We've cut it into spindles of 1 3 4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. We have air dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10 12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest

Texas Ebony Block TE-565 1.75" x 1.75" x 8.2" 1.1 lbs. This is a beautiful piece of Texas Ebony heartwood. We've cut it into spindles of 1 3/4" across and 8" long. The grain on this piece is long and straight, with swirls around small and infrequent burl buds. We have air-dried this Texas Ebony log for 5+ years. Moisture content is 10-12%. Janka hardness is 2820 lbf. Density is 80 lb/ft3. This wood is very dense and hard, one of the hardest available in North America. The finished products are exquisite. This block has some very minor end-grain checking (see close-up photo) and one crack that is larger and extends about an inch into the block. There is also a patch of softened heartwood in about 30% of this block; we've discounted because of the crack and the weathering. The weathered area is still firm but will need stabilization if you wish to turn it. |
