Description:
In the midst of the current crisis threatening the historical project of European unification, renowned philosopher Jürgen Habermas delivers a critical analysis in 'The Crisis of the European Union'. This insightful essay addresses the ineffectual responses to the global financial crisis, particularly focusing on the actions of the German political class during the eurozone turmoil. Habermas explores the urgent need for revising the European treaty to rectify structural defects within the monetary union, capturing the essence of the European project at a crucial juncture.
In 'The Crisis of the European Union', you will discover Habermas’s argument for a democratic transformation of European governance, advocating for a genuine cosmopolitan community rather than mere executive federalism. His examination of human dignity within the context of human rights sheds light on the philosophical underpinnings necessary for developing democratic institutions that transcend national boundaries. As Europe grapples with its future amidst ongoing debates, Habermas’s critical intervention not only highlights the challenges ahead but also presents a vision for the realization of Europe’s democratic potential. This book is essential for anyone interested in European politics, philosophy, and the future of the EU.

Description:
Translated by Ciaran Cronin.
In the midst of the current crisis that is threatening to derail
the historical project of European unification, JĂĽrgen
Habermas has been one of the most perceptive critics of the
ineffectual and evasive responses to the global financial crisis,
especially by the German political class. This extended essay on
the constitution for Europe represents Habermas?s
constructive engagement with the European project at a time when
the crisis of the eurozone is threatening the very existence of the
European Union. There is a growing realization that the European
treaty needs to be revised in order to deal with the structural
defects of monetary union, but a clear perspective for the future
is missing. Drawing on his analysis of European unification as a
process in which international treaties have progressively taken on
features of a democratic constitution, Habermas explains why the
current proposals to transform the system of European governance
into one of executive federalism is a mistake. His central argument
is that the European project must realize its democratic potential
by evolving from an international into a cosmopolitan community.
The opening essay on the role played by the concept of human
dignity in the genealogy of human rights in the modern era throws
further important light on the philosophical foundations of
Habermas?s theory of how democratic political institutions
can be extended beyond the level of nation-states.
Now that the question of Europe and its future is once again at the
centre of public debate, this important intervention by one of the
greatest thinkers of our time will

Excellent Pepper Grinder
Color: Upgrade Black, Size: Rechargeable
I've had several pepper grinders over the years, and none was as easy and smooth to use as this one. It fills easily, and it grinds evenly and smoothly with a gentle press of the button. I am glad there are two, just in case one does give out, I will have the other to use, as I am not interested in grinding salt. It runs so effortlessly that you have to be a little careful when picking it up that you do not accidentally engage the button before you want the pepper to come out. I love it, and came back here after using it for two months just to let you know.

Greatest Kitchen Item I've Bought in Years
Color: Upgrade Black, Size: Rechargeable
These grinders are awesome. No more tedious grinding, or endless shaking! I love the adjustable grind levels (I like mine fairly coarse), and these hold a charge for a long time - months. My friends are super impressed when they visit, and will probably be buying these too.

Fast and efficient!
Color: Upgrade Black, Size: Rechargeable
These are a very nice set. Our other pair started grinding the salt and pepper as soon as you flipped it over and made a mess. This set here you have to push the button first. Also it is faster at grinding. Recommend!
