Historical background:
In 1937, the Italian Ministry of War issued specifications for a new type of armored vehicle to meet the needs of colonial police remote patrols and army reconnaissance units.
In May 1939, Fiat SPA and the Ansaldo Fosati consortium launched the ABM1 armored vehicle.
After military testing, standardization was achieved in May 1940 and named the AB40 armored vehicle. The first batch of vehicles was delivered in March 1941.
Production: Approximately 24 AB40 armored vehicles were produced. Due to its insufficient firepower, it was later improved to AB41 and mass-produced.
