The armoured scale insect family Diaspididae is one of ten families of plant-sucking scale insects present in New Zealand, and this family has three unique features. The first feature is that the stomach of armoured scale insects is not directly connected to the hind gut, so they do not produce honeydew; the second is their armour or scale cover, in which they incorporate the cast skins of their juvenile moults; and the third feature is the fused segments of the posterior part of the abdomen called the pygidium.
In this Fauna the adult females of all 49 species of Diaspididae known from New Zealand, except the Leucaspidini, are described and illustrated. Four new genera and seven new species are described, and nomenclatural changes are noted. The 1st- and 2nd-instar nymphs of all the endemic species and of four Australian species that are of systematic interest are also described and illustrated. Keys to allow separation of adult females of all genera and species are included.
Additional features of this Fauna include: a brief review of earlier work on the Diaspididae in New Zealand; discussion of the biology and life cycle, scale cover formation, natural enemies, distribution, host plant associations including galls, and economic importance; a guide to methods for slide-mounting Diaspididae as used in the NZ Arthropod Collection.

Great atlas for travel in British Columbia
Format: Spiral-bound
My spouse and I used this atlas during our recent travel within British Columbia. It is very useful with its broad details of data and the quality of the maps. There are two different scales of maps, depending on the purpose of the map - "Recreation" or "Landscape". The best scale is 1:300,000 on the landscape maps, which is certainly better than most road maps, especially when you consider the road network included in these landscape maps and the large size of the province. I recommend this atlas.

Get the most out of your travels
Format: Spiral-bound
This, like others in the same series, was a very helpful resource for a recent trip. I’ve never regretted buying these maps. Love the details and we have found many “roads less travelled” to explore with them.

Essential for road tripping and camping in British Columbia.
Format: Spiral-bound
Just what we needed for a road trip with our truck camper to British Columbia and home by way of Jasper and Banff--the unexpected bonus was maps of that western part of Alberta that included the areas around Jasper and Banff. The provincial and regional parks are numerous; it is difficult to find hiking guidebooks for areas besides near Victoria. This Benchmark book has it all to help us find camping (even dispersed on public lands) and hiking and will help us narrow down any searches we might need to do on the web. This gets added to our growing collection of Benchmark and Delorme map books for the western US states.

Another fine Benchmark Atlas.
Format: Spiral-bound
We travel a lot and own 6 benchmark atlases now. They're the finest on the market and include camping and fishing information and show the forest service and other backroads. What's special about the British Columbia atlas is that it is spiral bound. I just replaced my Oregon atlas after 20 years because the cover had ripped up and torn off and the pages were falling out. I hope they will all be spiral bound from now on.
