Description:
How can we have meaningful debates with political opponents? How can we distinguish reliable science from over-hyped media reports? How can we talk sensibly about God?
In What Philosophy Can Do, Gary Gutting takes a philosopher's scalpel to modern life's biggest questions and the most powerful forces in our society”politics, science, religion, education, and capitalism”to show how we can improve our discussions of contentious contemporary issues.
Gutting introduces readers to powerful analytic tools in the philosopher's arsenal that they can use to make new sense of current debates. One such tool is a crucial distinction between inductive and deductive reasoning that explains why both sides on a disputed issue often are sure they have compelling cases for their views.
Another is the Principle of Charity, which requires opposing parties to present each other's arguments in their strongest forms”a tool that would make critiques both more respectful and more effective. Gutting also shows how concepts introduced by philosophers from Plato and Aristotle to Michel Foucault and John Rawls can clarify public discussions about morality, the economy, and medicine.
From informed assessments of scientific claims to careful analyses of arguments for and against religious belief, Gutting brings a calm, clear-headed approach to some of the most divisive issues on the table today. He scrutinizes our relationship to work and freedom in capitalism; our modern understanding of happiness and the good life; the value of liberal arts education and the humanities; the role of science and politics in shaping public pol

I absolutely love the Saltair line of products!
Scent: Sandalwood
I used the body wash at a friend's house and fell in love, especially with the Santal Bloom scent! This body oil is just so amazing and feels so silky and soft. It's especially effective if you use it right out of the shower. It adds a beautiful glow and I even use a little in my hair. It's quite concentrated so a little goes a long way. I have even mixed it into my favorite coconut oil and it mixes beautifully. Don't sleep on this line!

Smells great
Scent: Golden Hour
Love this, my favorite scent from this line. Very subtle glitter so I still feel age appropriate. It’s an oil soy skin does feel oily for a little bit afterwards until it soaks in. It has lasted me quite awhile so I do feel it’s good value for the money. Have reordered a few times.

Great Glow and Scent, But Fades Quickly and Runs Out Fast
Scent: Vanilla
The Saltair Shimmering Body Oil in Salt Water Vanilla is a beautiful product.
The only 3 reasons I don’t give it 5 stars are because:
1. The shimmer is not very long-lasting. When I apply it before bed, most of the shimmer effect is completely gone and absorbed by my sheets by the morning. I assume pants and leggings would absorb it in the same way, but I’ve only ever worn shorts after applications during the day, and even then, the shimmer seems to fade after 4–6 hours.
2. I have to apply a lot of oil to achieve the amount of shimmer I desire. It averages about 20–25 pumps per use.
3. The 4-ounce bottle size, combined with needing a lot of product for each application, means I’m going to run out of it pretty quickly.
Here’s why I like this product:
1. The glow: If you’re looking for a subtle glow and a light shimmer effect, this oil is perfect for you; apply it before a night out, while wearing a swimsuit, or when going to the gym in your favorite workout set for a beautiful gleam.
2. The scent: It’s a divine, warm mix of sweet and spicy notes. It smells like vanilla, amber, and toasted marshmallow. It pairs really nicely with tropical, woodsy, sweet, or spicy perfumes—it’s very versatile.
3. Consistency and absorption: The oil absorbs nicely and has a light, runny consistency. Because it’s a dry oil, it isn’t too thick, nor does it leave a sticky feeling on the skin.
4. How my skin feels: I’ve used this oil 4 nights in a row, and every single morning I wake up, my skin feels so soft and smooth, with no residual stickiness or residue left behind.
