The U.S. bazooka team was a critical component of American infantry units during World War II, tasked with neutralizing enemy tanks, armored vehicles, and fortified positions. The bazooka, officially known as the M1 and later improved as the M9 and M9A1, was a man-portable, rocket-propelled anti-tank weapon that fired a shaped-charge warhead capable of penetrating armor. Typically operated by a two-man team-one soldier to aim and fire the bazooka, and the other to load and carry additional rockets-the bazooka provided U.S. infantry with a lightweight, direct-fire weapon that could take on enemy armor at close to medium ranges. This capability was especially important in the European and Pacific theaters, where U.S. forces frequently encountered German tanks and bunkers, as well as Japanese pillboxes and fortifications. The importance of the U.S. bazooka team in World War II was evident in their ability to offer infantry units a means of countering armored threats that would otherwise have required artillery or air support. Bazooka teams were instrumental during key engagements such as the Normandy invasion, the Battle of the Bulge, and various Pacific island campaigns, where they were often called upon to destroy enemy tanks or breach heavily defended positions. Their mobility allowed them to quickly respond to emerging threats on the battlefield, making them an essential part of combined arms operations. By providing infantry with a portable and effective anti-armor capability, U.S. bazooka teams played a significant role in the success of Allied operations, helping to level the playing field against heavily armored Axis forces.
Why add it to your army?
Infantry carried anti-tank weapons are a key part of any army. During the second world war, the developments in armoured fighting vehicles and tanks meant that these kind of weapons were essential to avoid single vehicle causing untold casualties. Whilst these are short range weapons, and they will not work on the very thickest armour, they can make a big difference to an armoured units willingness to advance, and it can quickly desimate units of light and medium tanks.
Pros:
Cheap (few points to add to your army)
Agile and easy to move
Longer range than just an infantry units anti tank capability
Good anti tank rating (10)
Cons:
Short range compared to some other similar weapons such as the bazooka
Carried by infantry so no armoured protection
Construction
Making these miniatures is easy with just three bases of two miniautres in this pack. Although you will have them built in just a couple of minutes, they will add real punch to your army. They can also be adapted for use as heavy machine guns with some simple alterations is you are fighting a battel where you need more anti infantry capacity and less anti tank!
The beauty of the BricksKrieg modeling methods however is that there are no limits (beyond some historical ones) on exactly how you create your units. They can have as many bases (squads) as you want, and you can go to town with weapons and uniforms by playing about with different brick combinations.
