Basics: zones 3-8, 36-72" x 36-72", full sun, the purply-mauve, large, fluffy bloom is comprised of numerous small flowers, blooms in mid-late summer, likes consistent moisture to considerably wet soils.

Common names: Spotted Joe-Pye Weed, Spotted Trumpet Weed, Joe Pyeweed, Joe Pye Weed, Queen of the Meadow (many other plants have this common name, probably depends on whose reign is in the ascendency).

Synonyms: Eupatorium maculatum, Eupatorium purpureum var. maculatum

Family: Asteraceae

Origin/Distribution: According to Go Botany this plant exhibits wide morphological variability and a wide distribution. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center says it is present in 36 states and 10 Canadian provinces. It is native to Maine and these plants were grown from seed collected in New England.

Habitat: low, wet places in fields and meadows, wet margins - as on edges of lakes, rivers, marshes, fens, swamps, etc. and in drainage ditches

More: Spotted Joe-Pye Weed is slow to wake up in the spring. It is a statuesque plant that works well at the back of a border or growing in conjunction with other strong growers like Helenium, New England Aster, and Wild Bergamot. If its height feels oppressive to you, cut it back by a third (or cut part of it back to stagger height) by the end of June. This delays flowering a bit. Its showy flowers bloom for a long time and provide nectar in the late part of the season. It stands well in the winter. It is a larval host for 27 species of caterpillars. Has been used medicinally. Deer and rabbit resistant. Salt tolerant. More info coming soon.

Liked it
Format: Kindle
I liked the worlds and the characters. The prophesy is confusing in that I would think, since all worlds ore on a path to destruction, the angels would want their world to be saved. I am sure there is more evil that will be revealed as the series proceeds. I dislike a prolonged “poor little me” trope and the main character has moved past that, thankfully, and began to show a fierce attitude as the novel progressed. The last portion of the novel had some great action. It’s worth reading, just be patient with a slow start.

Monstrously Sweet
Format: Kindle
This book packs an emotional punch, especially if you’ve experienced childhood trauma (particularly abuse and/or neglect). Alexandra creates these three strong protectors who love her and will do anything to make her feel happy and safe. She started out drawing them when she was a small child, and then transitioned to stories as she grew up. Lucien, Elwin, and Kylo look frightening in their monster forms, but it’s clear that they would never hurt Alexandra, and she has never felt afraid of them. They have very distinct personalities that we get to know better throughout the book. The love and devotion they have for Alexandra is sweet and unwavering. This is a fantastic and creative story! The world-building is wonderful - it’s a shared world with M. Sinclair, and takes place at a university for supernatural beings. The additional world-building within Alexandra’s story added even more depth and intrigue. The spicy times were 🥵 and it’s more of a medium burn, but it works with the characters and I expect that it’ll pick up quite a bit in the next books. Monsters Within has a unique way of addressing mental health issues that can come from being abused and neglected. There are some flashbacks to Alexandra’s childhood that provide some insight but they don’t go into heavy details. I absolutely adored this book and can’t wait for more!

One of us
Format: Kindle
Alexandra is literally one of us. She's just lucky her fictional men became a reality hahaha. This was a good start to what I know is going to be a great series. This was fast paced and kept me entertained. Im ready for the chaos to slow down a little bit so we can get more into the character development. There's so much happening, I feel like we hardly know anything about anyone BUT that's why this is a series so let's get to the next one!

Alex and her monsters
Format: Kindle
A somewhat intriguing story that did drag a little despite giving us some world building. The explanations just took too long even if we don’t get the full picture yet. I will say the story does have some humor and is very hot. I may pick up the second book at some point.
