П’єсу 'Новеченто' побудовано у формі монолога. Музикант-тромбоніст розповідає історію Денні Будманна Т.Д. Лемона Новеченто, піаніста джазового оркестру на трансатлантичному судні 'Вірджинець'. Його виростив один із учасників оркестру після того, як Денні ще немовлям покинули на кораблі бідні емігранти. Так звичним довкіллям хлопчика стали трансатлантичний корабель, море та музика. Хоча він ніколи не бачив нічого, крім океану, морів та портів, він багато подорожує у власній фантазії, уважно дослухаючись до розповідей пасажирів на борту. У свої 32 роки нарешті наважується зійти на сушу, однак в останню мить передумує і знову втікає на корабель.

Маленька п’єса піднімає важливі питання життєвого вибору і мужності маленьких та великих кроків, якої вимагає від нас доля. Можна ніколи не залишати рідної домівки і почуватися громадянином світу. А можна багато мандрувати й ніколи не знайти душевного спокою. Зрештою, правильно кажуть: куди б ми не поїхали, а доводиться себе везти з собою..
